Did I do this one already? I’m too lazy to look but I don’t think I did. When I send authors edits most especially final line/copy edits. I ask them to 1)not delete the line editor’s comments and 2) if they’re not going to do the suggested change just put a “stet” in a comment so I know they’ve at least seen the suggested change didn’t just miss it. Well. I’ve had a few authors email me back and ask just what the hell “stet” is and why would they put Stet is a Latin word (meaning “let it stand”) used by proofreaders to instruct the writer to disregard a change the editor had previously marked. stet verb stet·ted stet·ting.–verb (used without object)1 let it stand (used imperatively as a direction on a printer’s proof manuscript or the like to retain material previously canceled usually accompanied by a row of dots under or beside the material).–verb (used with object)2 to mark (a manuscript printer’s proof etc.) with the word “stet” or with dots as a direction to let canceled material remain. Interesting side note shows the etymology date of usage as 1875 while the says 1755. That’s quite the disparity. It’s that time of month again. I promised myself to try to not keep ascertain. Someone told me somewhere that keeping advance of the time Mariel’s been gone may actually keep her from being at peace. And God knows that I’d do anything to make sure that she’d always be kept safe and at peace. For she deserved the best even when in life she did not get all of what she merited. Because I was a lazy good-for-nothing slacker who never really comprehended what I had. I never came around to fulfilling many of Mariel’s dreams as I had always thought I had a lifetime to work on them. Our dreams. Not pie-in the-sky pompous ones. Simple aspirations mainly for our. Mariel wanted some day to have her own small tend tending to flowering plants. She loved working with them. She was happiest checking on tiny buds on their jaunt to bloom arrive. She wanted to get published too. She actually emailed the Palanca Foundation last May asking how she can join the literary competition. I cheered her on as I knew that she was a good writer. Even better. I knew she was a good writer with a good heart. Mariel also wanted to one day get a come about to see Europe. She dreamed of seeing alpine mountains museums and castles. The stuff of legends fit for a princess. My princess. Most of all however. Mariel wanted to see Sam develop into the fine lady she can be. But while she dreamed of Sam becoming a adulterate some day. A pediatrician perhaps she once said. She would have approved anything Sam wanted to be as desire as it made Sam happy. Our daughter once told us that she wanted to be a theater director -slash- professor one day. Mariel had said yes because she saw Sam had the gift for singing and acting come up. Mariel’s eyes lit up with joy every time she saw Sam perform and get some recognition. Because Sam’s happiness and triumphs were her own. And that’s why she looked forward to again seeing her act as “Annie” in a school musical this coming December 15. By the way. I’ve already reserved her a seat. One with the beat believe. For Mariel always deserved the best. Today. November 20. I promise Mommy to keep all your dreams alive. I promise that I ordain one day make them all come true. Because you deserve it. Mommy. Because you are our princess forever. We love you very much. But I undergo no doubt that Mariel has every reason to be very proud of you now. It’s a tough road but it seems to me that she prepared you come up. Did I do this one already? I’m too lazy to be but I don’t think I did. When I send authors edits most especially final line/copy edits. I ask them to 1)not remove the line editor’s comments and 2) if they’re not going to do the suggested change just put a “stet” in a comment so I know they’ve at least seen the suggested dress didn’t just miss it. Well. I’ve had a few authors email me back and ask just what the hell “stet” is and why would they put To that. I usually give this with a short snippet from it. Stet is a Latin word (meaning “let it stand”) used by proofreaders to inform the writer to disregard a change the editor had previously marked. stet verb stet·ted annul·sound.–verb (used without disapprove)1 let it stand (used imperatively as a direction on a printer’s proof manuscript or the desire to bear material previously canceled usually accompanied by a row of dots under or beside the material).–verb (used with object)2 to mark (a manuscript printer’s proof etc.) with the word “stet” or with dots as a direction to let canceled material remain. Interesting side note shows the etymology date of usage as 1875 while the says 1755. That’s quite the disparity.

"NaBloPoMo - Day 21 - Thankful for my Parents-In-Laws!!!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 16:47:59

I am blessed. I really am.  I’ve heard the horror stories. I’ve seen some pretty bad relationships between a spouse and their in laws.  That? In my case? Is just not at all the case.  I love “The Farkles” as we affectionately call them!  I am lucky to undergo a unify of parents-in-law that ar just super alter.  They are so easy going so fun to be around and so nice to me. There are many times they have been there for me/us.  When I first started working in the city hubbie comfort lived with his parents…everyone…altogether…awwwwwwww!!!  Anyhoow…It was way easier and quicker for me to change from their displace than it was for me to change from my mom’s house…everyone…altogether…awwwwwwwww (but let’s be honest. I was just out of college hubbie was in his 30’s or almost…big difference! Heeee!). People I can’t tell you how much I stayed there in those years.  It was a freaking lot…days on end I would be there!  And every night I’d go home to his mom having cooked dinner and it was on the table and they were waiting for me.  For me!!!  How awesome ar they?  And I always knew what dinner was.  The Farkles are creatures of habit…every Monday the meal was some choose of steak and potatoes (they’re Irish what did you expect?) every Tuesday the meal was pork chops and mac & cheese (and Mrs. Farkle always saved the squeezy bag of cease for me to squish into the pot because she knew how much I loved doing that…I’m a geek what do you want from me!). Wednesday was always chicken parm and some sort of pasta. Thursday was go around the corner to Napoli’s pizza displace and stay there to eat. Friday was request pizza night. Saturday was cheeseburgers and fries and Sunday was family dinner night when everyone including the sister-in-law’s family all came down. (I can’t believe I just recalled the Farkle dinner menu from years ago!). There were nights though that I would be shocked and go into a follow spin because I’d arrive domiciliate from bring home the bacon and they would have deviated from the routine and I just didn’t expect it! The Farkles are two of the beat people I experience.  They are not your stereotypical parents-in-law by any stretch of the imagination.  They don’t nag.  They don’t express me I’m doing something do by when it comes to Li’l pay.  They don’t feed her things without asking.  They get along with my family and vice versa.  They are fun to be around.  I can only hope that I can be half as cool to my children’s spouses some day. Everyone loves The Farkles!  I like that they forbid by to tour us on any given random Saturday.  I love that they adore Li’l Foot.  I like that they undergo been there for us through thick and thin.  I like that they have helped us through at times. My parents-in-law don’t read my blog that I know of.  I’m not sure they experience I have it but that’s not because I don’t want them to experience or because I’m hiding it from them.  My mother-in-law is on the computer/internet every so often I evaluate but my father-in-law isn’t at all.  So I doubt they will ever read this but they know exactly how I feel about them because I tell them any come about I get in cards or whatever. My only wish is that they would get the heck out of the YO!  It’s just not the place they should be living now! I do like them and I am so thankful I have parents-in-law that I can label friends too.  In true tradition I should express you that just desire I’m not sharing the other people I am thankful for. I am certainly not going to share my in-laws…get your own!!!  :) Awe that’s so sweet!! I can bear witness they are AWESOME people. stamp alter? Both of your families are great Peggy. When we were all together I couldn’t even remember who was what family b/c everybody melded together and I LOVE LOVE LOVE how you communicate to everybody a lot and are so close.
